The limousine law by VOSA (Vehicle &operator services agency)
Dear Customer
As from the 1st October 2009 VOSA has slapped all limousines companies with an enforcement of compliance with the requirements for licensing of passenger carrying vehicle within GB under the public passengers vehicles act 1981.
If any operator says they can carry more then 8 passengers then they are breaking the VOSA law it states all operators must be licencerd either by council or VOSA if you have more then 8 i.e 14 –16 plus then you will need to either use 8 seater vehicles or find a limousine company that has a COIF (certificate of initial fitness) which is only granted by VOSA .
You can contact VOSA contact centre on 0300 123 9000 as long as you have company name and hopefully the vehicles reg they will confirm if the vehicle is coifed or you can contact Bill Bowling At NCLA legislation officer www.ncla.co.uk .
If vehicle has no licence in window or plate then they are not allowed to be on the road for hire and reward this is what has been said by VOSA.
Sorry we have to put this on website until VOSA pulls there fingers out limo firms are going to find it hard because it is taking upto 10 plus weeks to obtain an operators Licence from them for the big vehicles.
For the towncars are more easier to be licensed by the councils because they are built for 8 passengers only. But some bourough councils will not licence any limousines
Any information you require please contact VOSA about this.
